Our Mission

Healing Hoofbeats of CT seeks to help individuals feel more empowered and secure in their lives through building healthy and mutually beneficial relationships with horses.  It is our belief that through learning how to build and maintain these relationships we begin to heal from past experiences, learn how to navigate difficult situations and feel more at peace in our lives.

Our Approach

Healing Hoofbeats of CT believes that the healing process occurs through relationships.  Working with horses provides a safe space to begin to learn how to develop healthy and mutually beneficial relationships.  It is through this process that people begin to heal from the trauma or difficult situations they have incurred in their lives.  People are social beings and thrive in healthy relationships; we can also develop harmful or unhealthy coping mechanisms and relationship patterns which have lasting effects on us.  Whether a single traumatic event or several experiences, we are always able to heal.  Horses are amazing partners in this as they provide us nonjudgmental, honest, direct and quick responses to our behaviors and emotional states so that we can begin to learn how to engage in healthy and mutually beneficial relationships and enhance the quality of our lives through connection.

Healing Hoofbeats of CT specializes in working with individuals, couples, families and groups through Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.  Utilizing both unmounted and mounted techniques, clients are able to work through their challenges and struggles, be it trauma-related or not, through experiential work with horses.  

 

Horses have long maintained their "wild" instincts through centuries of being domesticated, offering themselves as the perfect partner for therapy.  Horses are a perfect partner for therapy, as they utilize their instincts and keen sensitivity to non-verbal communication to assist their human counterparts in healing and experiencing new ways to develop relationships, regulate emotions and heal from invisible wounds.
